Artist’s Statement
I describe my painting style as conceptual or abstract. My process is oriented around a philosophy of presence where the marks, shapes, and passages of color push, pull, and resolve in a balance of harmony and dissonance. Compositions are nuanced through a dialogue among the voices of each mark and brush stroke. Intuitive decisions are made during this dialogue as new perspectives and possibilities present themselves. The sense of order, in whatever form it takes, is an expression of my connection with the aliveness of the world around me and thus with a great consciousness. To borrow from Mark Rothko, I want people to look at my art, and, as they turn to walk away, continue to feel its emotion.”
Artist’s Bio
I am currently pursuing a post-baccalaureate fine arts degree at Miami University’s College of Creative Arts concentrating in painting and drawing. In the last two years I have had the privilege of exhibiting at juried Midwestern fine art shows at Fitton Center, Middletown Art Center, Richmond Art Museum, and Oxford Community Arts Center. I’m a graduate of University of Kentucky and also attended University of Louisville, University of Nebraska College of Law, and Pacific School of Religion. I am now an Ohio resident.
*Abstract expressionism is a style of art where artists use shapes, colors, and forms to express emotions and ideas without necessarily depicting recognizable objects or scenes. It's like painting or creating in a way that's more about feelings and energy rather than making things look real. Think of bold brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and a sense of spontaneity and freedom in the artwork. It's all about expressing inner thoughts and emotions in a visually powerful way.
